An evening in the city · events and accommodation
Plan dinner at DIA, the walk to Žalgirio Arena and an optional stay at Moxy Kaunas Center, with timings, booking details and a Sunday exception to check.
Kaunas Juda · · around 5 min read

If you are coming to Kaunas for a concert or a match, arrive early enough to enjoy more than the journey to your seat. You can have an unhurried dinner, take a walk and still leave time before the event. Begin with your ticket: the programme has a fixed start, while your table reservation can fit around it.
This plan combines dinner at DIA, an event at Žalgiris Arena and, if you want to stay overnight, Moxy Kaunas Center. The hotel is about 200 metres from the restaurant, and the restaurant is roughly a 1.2 km walk from the area around the arena. You can spend the evening in the centre without moving a car between stops.
DIA offers an à la carte menu and a five-course tasting dinner. Before an event, the distinction matters: you are choosing how much time to set aside as well as what to eat.1
For this plan, we suggest ordering individual dishes and agreeing a departure time with the restaurant in advance. Save the tasting dinner for an evening when you have no reason to hurry afterwards. Confirm the expected duration of either option when booking; the number of courses alone does not tell you how long it will take.
The restaurant is at Maironio g. 9. Call +370 655 80308 for reservations. Tell the team when your event starts and when you would like to finish dinner, so you can agree a specific plan.1
If you are meeting a group, look at the menu beforehand. Agree whether you want several courses, and tell the restaurant about allergies or other dietary needs. That leaves more time for conversation at the table.
We allow roughly an hour and a half to two hours for dinner in this itinerary. If you will only have forty minutes before leaving, arrange a shorter meal with the restaurant. It is difficult to relax over dinner when you are checking the clock every few minutes.
DIA lists a closing time of 15:00 on the last Sunday of the month. Do not plan a pre-show evening dinner there on that day. Weekend brunch is offered from 12:00 to 15:00, so eating earlier may be an option.1
If your event falls on that Sunday, eat at the restaurant during the day and spend the remaining time exploring the city. Check this exception before booking your transport or arranging a meeting.1
On other days, choose an arrival time that suits the evening you want. A quick meal and a long catch-up with friends need different amounts of time. If you want both a relaxed dinner and plenty of conversation, give Kaunas the whole afternoon.
DIA is about 1.2 km on foot from the area around the arena. We suggest allowing 20 to 30 minutes for the walk. The measured route ends at the paths beside the arena: you will still need to find the entrance for your event. Queueing time is not included.
Žalgirio Arena is at Karaliaus Mindaugo pr. 50. Check your event listing and ticket for the right entrance, door-opening time and rules on what you can bring. General venue rules are useful, but some conditions depend on the organiser.1
You may also need time for the cloakroom, to find your seating section or to meet friends. Add a buffer for those things. The walking time on a map is not enough on its own to decide when to leave dinner.
If rain makes you decide to take a car, remember the wait for it and the walk from the drop-off point. Changing transport does not necessarily save you from a rush, so decide while you still have time to spare.
You could book a table for 16:30, finish dinner around 18:00 and reach the arena by 18:30. The remaining half-hour would be for entry and finding your seat. This is a planning example: use it only after confirming dinner timings and the admission arrangements for your event.
Eat earlier if you want to enter as soon as doors open, or if there is a support act or other programme before the main event. Plan around the part of the evening you do not want to miss.
Ask for the bill while you still have a little time, especially if you will be paying separately. Dessert can be a decision for later in the meal; the time you need to leave is better agreed in advance.
Moxy Kaunas Center is at Maironio g. 19. Check-in begins at 15:00 and check-out is by 12:00. Breakfast is not automatically included in every offer, so check what your room rate covers.1
Arriving after 15:00 lets you check in, leave your bags and head to dinner. The hotel is about 200 metres from DIA, roughly five minutes on foot. If you arrive earlier, arrange early room access or luggage storage with the hotel.1
Compare accommodation offers for the same dates, number of guests and included services. Look at breakfast and cancellation terms. If your plans could change, the option to cancel may be worth more than a small saving.
We suggest this hotel because of its position on this particular route. Check the room price and availability for your travel date. Staying in the centre lets you take the evening more slowly after the event, without a journey home hanging over it.
A good evening starts before the stage lights come on. With enough time for dinner, the walk and getting inside, Kaunas becomes more than a trip from the car to the arena. If you are travelling home that night, check the last departure beforehand: trains do not wait for an encore.
Moxy Kaunas Center → DIA → the area around Žalgirio Arena. Choose your event entrance according to your ticket and the organiser’s information.
