8NovemberStart the weekend in the Old Town. Visit Kaunas Castle, then walk to the lively Town Hall Square. The narrow streets offer quiet courtyards and appealing views to discover.
Continue to Laisvės alėja, a convenient place to meet friends, see an exhibition or spend an easy evening outdoors. Check the weekend events map: courtyards and the avenue often host small markets and exhibitions.
For river views, head towards the meeting of the Nemunas and Neris. It is a lovely place at sunset, while Nemunas Island offers another option for a quiet walk. Allow a little time on the riverbank to see the city from a different angle.
Keep Friday evening flexible. A short walk, a few views and perhaps some live music outdoors make an enjoyable start to the weekend.
Begin the morning with a view. Take the Aleksotas funicular to the viewpoint for a broad panorama of Kaunas. It is a good place to get your bearings for the rest of the day.
Next, head to Žaliakalnis. Ąžuolynas suits a run, a stroll or a picnic, while the nearby Kauko Steps add a romantic touch to the walk. The paths feel peaceful, although the city is close at hand.
With children, choose a route through green squares and play areas. Follow the paths, admire the interwar architecture and cool off near a fountain if the weather allows. Bring snacks and water, particularly on a hot day.
The hills offer expansive views. Climb to a terrace, pause for a moment and capture the city, rivers and greenery in a single photograph.
Make Saturday evening a time for culture. Museums and galleries often have new exhibitions, with concerts and films adding to the choice. Check the events calendar and see what appeals to you.
Try a themed tour of interwar modernism. Walk through the Old Town and New Town to discover the stories behind the façades. These walks work equally well with friends or on your own.
For a livelier outing, see what is happening in squares and courtyards. Summer often brings markets, improvisation and outdoor performances. Even without a fixed plan, the city can offer ideas as you go.
When the weather is changeable, choose a film, a talk or a literary evening. On warmer evenings, look for courtyards and outdoor stages with a welcoming atmosphere.
Start Sunday on Nemunas Island. Walk barefoot on the grass, get some exercise or simply watch the river flow. A peaceful morning can set you up well for the week ahead.
Later, follow the riverside paths. Cycling, skating or walking lets you see the city from another angle and end the weekend without rushing. When you need a break, sit by the water and let your thoughts settle.
If you still have energy, return to Laisvės alėja or the Old Town for one last coffee or dessert. Take a few photographs by the rivers’ confluence and Kaunas Castle for a memorable finish to the weekend.
For one final highlight, cross the bridge to Aleksotas and take a ride on the funicular, finishing the weekend with a view.
Explore the paths in Ąžuolynas, Nemunas Island and the playgrounds of Žaliakalnis. Visit the area around Kaunas Castle and walk to the meeting of the Nemunas and Neris rivers for open spaces and fine views.
Start in the Old Town, visit Kaunas Castle and walk along Laisvės alėja. Check what is happening in courtyards and on outdoor stages, where you can often find live music or exhibitions.
Try Laisvės alėja, the Old Town and the riverbanks near the confluence. Other appealing routes lead through Ąžuolynas, over the hills of Žaliakalnis and up to the Aleksotas viewpoint.
