Nature Trails in and around Kaunas: Routes and Distances | Kaunas Juda
Kaunas and the surrounding area
Nature trails in and around Kaunas
Choose a short stroll in Kačerginė or a longer loop through the pine woods of Kulautuva. Compare distances, scenery and starting points below. Each place has a fuller description and a map to help you get there, where we have verified coordinates.
Along the Kaunas Reservoir
Head to Juniper Valley for panoramic views, Žiegždriai for geological outcrops, or Pakalniškės for woodland paths with information boards.
Forest and wetlands
The Dubrava Reserve trail leads through protected woodland and a raised bog. Allow a separate stop for the arboretum in Girionys.
Circular walks
Kulautuva has six routes ranging from 2.6 to 6 km. The route described for Kamša Reserve is a roughly 1.5 km loop that includes steps.
Compare the trails
Distances are for the routes described by the official sources. Walking from your car, taking a detour or making the return journey may add to the total.
The Dubrava Reserve nature trail: a 1.9 km route through forest and raised-bog surroundings, with a starting point and information for planning your trip.
Kulautuva wellness trails: six circular routes of 2.6–6 km through the pine forest. Start on Pušyno Street and choose a route to suit the time you have.
The Springs Trail near Kačerginė: a choice of 2.6–6 km routes, forest paths and the direction of Pypliai Hill Fort. Information for planning your walk.
Pakalniškiai Nature Trail: a walk of about 3 km taking 2 hours, starting near Piliuonos Street and taking in Pakalniškiai Hillfort and the shore of Kaunas Reservoir.
The Kamša Reserve nature trail in Akademija: a circular walk of about 1.5 km, with panels about plants and wildlife and a connection to the cycle path.
The listed distances are 800 m for the Kačerginė landscape trail, 1.3 km for Juniper Valley and around 1.5 km for Kamša Reserve. A shorter trail is not necessarily easier: consider steps, the path surface and the return journey.
Where can we walk with children?
Kulautuva’s official visitor information suggests the 2.6 km green route for families, with five rest and play areas. Choose a walk that suits your children’s ages and abilities.
Can I take a pushchair?
A trail’s length or a photograph of a boardwalk does not establish whether the entire route is accessible. Kamša has steps, while the Kulautuva routes are hilly and sandy in places. Check current conditions on your chosen section with the organisation that maintains it.
